Battery Technology Update for Gilian Air Sampling Pumps

Gilian NiCad Battery Phase-out Update - February 2012

In June of 2011 Sensidyne issued a letter through the distribution channel with a projected schedule for phase-out of NiCad batteries in Gilian pump products. The following is an update of that phase-out schedule:

  • The BMS battery maintenance systems, originally designed for maintaining NiCad batteries, are out of production and are no longer available. These systems are not recommended for use with NiMH batteries due to the high current out-put, which can compromise the NiMH battery’s protective circuitry in Gilian products. A trade-in program is available through your local distributor toward the purchase of a five-unit Universal charger.
  • The NiCad version BDX-II pumps have been replaced by NiMH versions, and the NiCad versions are no longer made as of February, 2012. The NiMH replacement battery pack for these models is a drop in replacement and retains the UL label. (See this link for additional information)
  • The NiCad version of UL approved GilAir-3 and GilAir-5 pumps will be available approximately through March of 2012. The NiMH replacement battery pack for these models is a drop in replacement and retains the UL label.
  • The NiCad UL version LFS-113 pump will be available approximately through March of 2012.  Replacement NiCad battery packs for this model will be available for the near future. The conversion of these pumps to NiMH versions requires a factory up-grade.
